Are you looking for a trendy hair style that will give you the best of both worlds and will take less than five minutes? (aren’t we all!) Well guess what, I found one! Today’s hair tutorial is quick, easy and very versatile: The Half Crown Braid! Follow the steps below to tackle this adorable ‘do’!

Steps 1, 2, & 3: Start by taking a 1-2 inch section of hair on one side of your head (a little above your ear). Split that section into 3 pieces and start making a traditional (plait) braid.

Steps 4, 5, & 6: While making your braid, angle it so that it wraps around the back of your head. Then secure the end with a small elastic. Repeat on the other side of your head.

Step 7: Take the end of the first braid and gently wrap it around to the other side of your head. Place it where you like it, and then secure it in place with a bobby pin.

Step 8: Repeat Step 7 on the other side and tuck the end of the second braid behind the first braid, again securing with a bobby pin.

Depending on how much time you have or where you’re going, you can play around with this style’s finished look. To up the drama, before Step 1, you can tease the crown of your hair to give an elegant finish! Or once finished, you can curl the ends of your hair to soften the look as well! No matter what you do to make this style your own, you can’t beat the fact that the basic ‘do’ took you five minutes to pull off!

In preparation for warm weather it only seems appropriate to showcase the perfect boho up-do for that effortless summer look. Try this boho up-do!

The first step is to choose your headband, preferably one that matches your outfit of course!

Next, place the headband around the crown of your head. I like to secure my headband with bobbie pins so that I can ensure this hairstyle will stay in place all day.

As for the hard part, start off by taking a front section, loosely twisting it and tucking it into the back of the headband.

Repeat this step on the other side.

Next, grab a second section and tuck it into the back of the headband as well. Feel free to bobby pin this in place as well so it is secure. Again, repeat this step on the other side.

You are then left with one pony tail looking section in the back. Since I have long hair, I am going to start by folding this section in half once, then in half again and tuck it into the headband.

Of course I used my trusty bobby pins for this step too! Lastly, if you have any loose or fallen pieces of hair you can leave them as is, or curl them for more of a beach-y look!

For best results begin with clean, dry hair in your natural texture. Separate your hair to begin working on the bottom section. I typically separate my hair into thirds but depending on how thick your hair is you may want to do more or fewer sections.

For each section, apply a heat protectant and brush out any knots. I used TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-In Spray.

Straighten your hair in 1-2 inch sections depending on the thickness of your hair.

Continue straightening in this way until you get to the top section of your head. I am using a CHI 1″ flat iron.

Once the bottom two sections are complete tie them into a loose, low pony. That way you won’t get it confused with the hair that has already been straightened. Then, take the top section out of the clip and decide on your part. I will be doing a center part.

Apply a smoothing serum to eliminate frizz. I used BioSilk Silk Therapy.

Apply a light misting of hairspray to keep it pin straight all day and tame fly-aways. I used TRESemme Tres Two Spray in Extra Hold.

Brush out your hair one last time and you are finished!

Want a dramatic eye, but don’t want to bother with eyeshadow? Try doing a winged liner look, but take it a little further….

I used Inglot gel liner in #77, and angled MAC brush #263. I love this liner because it’s the blackest I’ve ever used and waterproof. This is my favorite brush because it’s very precise, and the synthetic hairs give a smooth and thin application.

Step 1. Starting with a matte eye, use your synthetic angle brush with the tip pointing away from the eye, to lay down your first line.
Step 2. Go back to the line, and drag the liner across the entire lid to the inside of the eye. The bigger the better, dont be scared! It’ll feel weird but it’ll look beautiful! Connect with the front of the eye.
Step 3. This will create an outline of your liner, so you can fix the shape or clean up any mistakes at this point. It’s much easier to correct the lines at this point rather than at the end.
Steps 4 & 5. Fill in!
Step 6. Apply black liner to your waterline
Step 7. Finish with a coat or two of your favorite mascara.
Voila!
