Step 1: The first step in creating big, bouncy curls is to apply a curl boosting mousse while the hair is still damp (you can also apply it to dry hair but it won’t spread out as evenly). I used Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse.

Step 2: After applying the mousse, I went in with a root plumper to give my hair a little more body. I used Catwalk Volume Collection Your Highness Root Boost Spray from TIGI.

Steps 3 & 4: After your hair dries completely, you can begin sectioning your hair. For each section, apply a heat protectant (I used TRESemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Leave-In Spray) and brush out any knots.

Step 5: Curl 1/2″-1″ strands of hair at a time with a clip-free curling wand. The curling wand I used is the Remington Keratin Therapy 1 1/2″. Keep sectioning and curling your hair until your entire head is complete.

Steps 6 & 7: After your curls are completed, play with your hair a little until it is positioned the way you like and then use hairspray to finish. I used TRESemme Tres Two Spray in Extra Hold.

Voila!

Step 1: The first step in any hairstyle involving a heat tool is to prep your hair. I used TRESemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray first, followed by a light misting of TRESemme Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray. I find that prepping my hair with hairspray helps the curls to hold better. The secret to a classic wave hairstyle is a small barrel curling iron, a clip-less one that is. I will be using my Cortex 4 in 1 curling iron set with the smallest barrel which is a 1/2-1″. Now on to the fun part!

Step 2: I started off by pulling half of my hair up so that I could start with the bottom section of hair first. The key is to work with smaller sections, about an inch wide, and curl each section going away from either side of your face. My curling iron is set to 290 degrees and, I hold each section for 10-15 seconds.

Steps 3, 4, & 5: Before you let your curl go, hold it in your hand for about 10 seconds and hair spray it so that way it has time to cool down and holds its shape. Now you can curl the rest of your hair!

Step 6: After you are done curling your hair, take a hair brush and gently run the brush through your curls. I know this seems like the perfect way to ruin all the time you just spent curling your hair, but trust me this will give you the perfect wave!

Step 7: Finish off with some hairspray and voila! The perfect classic wave is complete!

Sometimes you spend so much time getting those perfect wavy curls in your hair, but after one day, the front doesn’t lay right anymore and you feel like you need to wash it again.

To take advantage of your leftover waves and keep them looking fresh for a s second (or even third) day, try the baby bouffant! It is easy, fast and full of volume and bounce!

Separate the front/top portion of your hair, basically the area where you would or do have bangs. Clip it out of the way for now.

Gather the hair from the crown of your head. Hold it up and use a brush or a comb to tease it. The more your tease this area the more height and volume you will have when you’re done.

Once you have teased the crown let it fall to the back of your head, and sprits it with a little hairspray to keep it in place

Unclip that front section and simply sweep it back over the section you have just teased. Us e a few bobby pins to secure it in place.

Now just spray it again with a little more hair spray to keep it in place and make your volume last all day.

And voila! You’ve gotten another day out of those waves and curls!

Curls can turn out looking awkward and messy if not done right. You want to keep your hair looking soft, frizz-free, with a healthy shine. For soft and touchable curls, avoid using a hairspray. It’s ok for your curls to fall out a bit during the day; it’ll give you an effortless look.

Start with air-dried, conditioned hair.

Apply an anti-frizz serum. This will serve to condition and protect your hair from the heat.

Brush though each section of hair before straightening it to untangle it. To prevent breakage, hold the roots of your hair.

Brush through the section of hair as you straighten it to get soft, untangled, straight hair. Do this all throughout your hair till it’s all straightened.

Clip up sections of hair. This will help you curl one layer at a time, especially if you have thick hair.

To start curling with the straightening iron, start with the bottom layer near your roots or middle of the section of hair, taking it all the way down to your ends.

Unclip and do the same with the other layers. Remember to curl to the left when curling on the left side of your hair, curling to the right when curling the right side, and curling up and out if you’re curling your bangs.

Finish off with a serum spray to prevent frizz and add shine.
